30 Weeks

I'm almost 31 weeks pregnant. I have approximately 66 days to go, which is INSANE.

My 30-Week bump, plus Lucy making faces in the mirror...

Baby Sister is currently the size of a butternut squash, approximately 3.1 lbs and 17 inches long. Apparently, she will be gaining half a pound per week over the next several weeks. I find it hard to believe that my belly can possibly get any bigger, but a growing baby is a good thing!

At my 30 week doctor visit, the doctor was measuring me and said, "Oh my. Looks like you're having a contraction." Morgan had a minor heart attack, until she explained to him that Braxton-Hicks contractions are perfectly normal and safe, especially as I get late into my pregnancy. Since then, I've been feeling Braxton-Hicks contractions pretty regularly, almost every day. They are not too uncomfortable, and they usually go away if I drink a glass of water.

Other than Braxton-Hicks, I haven't really noticed any other symptoms. I seem to be able to prevent heartburn for the most part, as long as I watch my diet and avoid acidic foods. The only other symptom I've been experiencing is a {very} small bladder.

I can't believe we only have two months til we get to meet this little girl!

Vacation

Coming home from a great vacation is always bittersweet. This one was particularly wonderful, and I am so sad that it's over. Here are some photos from our trip, if you'd like to see...

Lucy loved swimming with my mom, her Lynnie, in the pool. By the time we left, she was like a little fish.

While we were visiting my parents, we went to the zoo... twice!

Also...

I got to meet a sloth!!!
And, no big deal or anything, but she woke up and said hello to me. It was a dream come true!!!

And, there's a video also. (Thanks, Mom!)

After a week at my parents' house, we went to the beach to enjoy some more relaxation time. The weather was perfect, and I have never seen the Gulf look so lovely.

I already want to go back!

Now that we are home, there is so much to do. I am almost 30 weeks pregnant, so we are getting close, people. I promise an update soon!

Happy Mother's Day

My mama and I... circa 1988.

I just want to wish a happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers. I am thankful to be surrounded by so many incredible women - mothers of all ages who constantly teach and inspire and challenge me. I am grateful for each one of you, and I want you to know that you are doing an amazing job. Thank you for your beautiful example, which encourages me daily.

On this day, I always feel the weight of these precious gifts I have been given, my children. I can't believe that I have been entrusted with these two, beautiful girls. It is something I will never, ever take for granted, even on the most difficult of days. I thank God for their lives, and I thank Him for allowing me to experience the blessing of motherhood.

Happy Mother's Day!

P.S. We are headed on vacation tomorrow, so the blog may be a little neglected for the next couple of weeks. I promise lots of updates / pictures upon our return! Pray for safe travels for us, especially tomorrow as I fly on my own with Lucy for the first time - yikes!

Imaginary Play

Lately, Lucy has been engaging in imaginary play, which is a huge developmental milestone...

Feeding her "babies"...

She makes sure that her "babies" get enough milk to eat. She also "changes" their diapers and puts them to bed.

It is so much fun watching Lucy's wild, little imagination develop. Some of her favorite imaginary play games, besides taking care of her "babies", are:

- Kitchen: Lucy has a little play kitchen, and she loves to "cook dinner". She pretends to wash dishes, season food with salt and pepper, cut vegetables, etc. And she always brings the finished product to us for a little "taste".

- School bus: Even though I am pretty sure Lucy has never seen a real school bus, she seems to understand the concept perfectly. I guess she must have read about a school bus in a book? One of her favorite games is to load the children onto her toy school bus and "drive" them to school. As she pushes her little school bus around the floor, she says things like, "Time to go to school," or "Time to go home," or "Sit down on the bus."

- Going out: Another of Lucy's favorite games is to pretend that she is going "out". She will put on her shoes (usually on the wrong feet... so cute!), grab her purse, and tell us "bye bye". She always asks for a hug and a kiss before she leaves. After a few minutes, she will announce, "I'm back!", and then the game starts all over again.

- Going to sleep: Lucy also likes to pretend that she is going to sleep. She asks us to turn the lights off, and she lays down in her little bed. The funniest part is that she pretends to snore! After a few seconds, she pops up and says, "I'm awake!"

Friends in Town

This past week, we had my friend Kelly in town. Kelly and I have known one another since college. We were actually roommates. She is expecting her first baby, a boy, due in late August. It was so much fun having her in town!

Our friend Beka (another of our college roommates) drove from Steamboat Springs for the weekend. It felt just like old times!

(Beka, Kelly, and I... plus Lucy... plus Baby Sister)

While Kelly and Beka were in town, we threw Kelly a little baby shower...

Of course, Lucy was happy to help Kelly open her shower gifts. :)

Congratulations, Kelly! We can't wait to meet Baby Teddy!
