Camping

A few weekends ago, we took the girls camping. It was our first time ever camping with kids, and we took all THREE, plus our dog...

We were the most nervous about how Esme would do, but she loved it!

I think we had a few things working in our favor: 1. The weather was absolutely perfect... still cool and not buggy yet, 2. We arrived after nap time and then left before nap time the following day, so no naps had to happen in the tent, 3. We had a separate tent for Lucy and Alice (who are used to sleeping together), so we were not all in the same tent.

Is it even camping if you don't make s'mores?

By the time we packed up camp the next morning, we were all a little sleepy and in need of baths, but overall, it was a huge success! We are already looking forward to our next family camping trip.

Dance Recitals

This year, Lucy and Alice were not able to have their dance recitals. They were so disappointed, but getting to wear their costumes and have a Zoom "recital" with their dance classes helped.

Here is Alice having her Zoom "recital"...

She was Alice in Wonderland!

I can't handle how grownup Lucy looks in these photos. She insisted on wearing full stage makeup, even though we were just in our living room. :)

Even though Lucy and Alice didn't get to have their dance recital this year, I am so proud of them for working hard and learning their routines. I am also incredibly thankful for their teacher and dance studio for continuing classes on Zoom every week. This has been such a weird season of life, but it has been sweet to find little bits of "normal" in the midst of it.

Lucy is 7!

Last month (was it really a month ago?), we celebrated Lucy's 7th birthday. Due to the pandemic, we couldn't really have a party for her, but it was still an incredibly special day.

The birthday girl having her birthday breakfast...

Lucy wanted "sprinkle pancakes" for her birthday breakfast.

We were able to have a small birthday celebration for Lucy outside in the yard. Her grandparents and cousins were able to come, and a parade of friends drove by to wish her a happy birthday. Everyone decorated their cars with signs and streamers. It meant so much to Lucy that her friends and family were there to celebrate her, even if we had to maintain social distance.

Happy birthday, sweet Lucy! Being your mom is such a privilege and such a joy! You are brilliant, courageous, and passionate. Your name means light, and that is what you are. I hope this year is magical for you!
