27 Weeks

When I typed the title for this post, I seriously did a double-take. My second trimester is officially behind me. You can tell...

The bump is growing quickly as Baby Girl grows. She weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and measures about 16 inches long! According to the What to Expect app on my phone, Baby Girl is the size of a head of cauliflower. That seems like a strange comparison to me, but alright!

This week, M is at a conference in Nashville. While he's away, I'm trying my best to be productive :)

Hope you have a lovely week!

26 Weeks

I realized that I forgot to take a 25 week photo... oops. Now here we are at Week 26, and Baby Girl weighs just over 2 pounds. I cannot believe how fast she is growing! Soon I will be entering my third trimester, the home stretch. It's crazy how quickly time is passing!

Roman Shades

Hello there. Hope you are enjoying your long weekend. I certainly am :)

Our entire weekend has been consumed with a project - Roman shades for Baby Girl's room. I have never made Roman shades before. I thought it looked easy enough. Actually, I was planning to use this neat little trick, which involves gluing fabric and blackout liner to bamboo shades. However, the windows in our house (which was built in the 1960's) are not standard size, which means we could not find any bamboo shades to fit unless we had them custom-made.

Once I realized that the easy road was out, I began looking for some comprehensive online tutorials. I found and decided to use this one. I am not great at sewing, but I was able to combine my very basic skills with M's awesome talent for handyman projects.

The fabric we chose was Fun Floret by Waverly. I was originally looking for something a little more neutral, but I decided the pretty blue would add a nice pop of color to the space. We still need to install another blackout liner behind the shades before Baby Girl arrives. This is our Eastern-facing bedroom, so it gets a ton of direct sunlight. This could make daytime naps a challenge!

There's still plenty of work to do before we're finished, but I promise to post more pictures soon :)

Happy long weekend!

Weekend Recap

Hope you all had a wonderfully, relaxing weekend. Here's how we spent ours...

M is sick with a cold, so Georgia kept him company while he spent a lazy weekend recuperating. I had a friend in town on Saturday, so we went to brunch at Snooze and saw Zero Dark Thirty... it was fascinating!

Happy Monday :)

Confidence

I have been thinking a lot, since finding out that we are going to be blessed with a little girl, about how and what I want to teach her. I feel like our society today is very hard on girls and women. We tell them, "You have to be this way," or, "You have to look like this." But I don't want our daughter to listen to those voices, negative and narrow and critical. I want her to listen to the only voice that matters.

I think that confidence is a hard lesson to learn. Of all the lessons we have to learn as women, I somehow feel this is the most precious. Confidence carries us far, much farther even than beauty or brains or talent. It doesn't allow the opinions of others to make us feel less valuable than we are.

I feel like confidence almost has to be planted inside you the very moment you enter the world, or else it has to be learned over years and years of trial and error, making mistakes and realizing that it's OK. I hope that my daughter possesses confidence, intrinsically, from the time she is born. But, just in case she doesn't, that's what I want to be for her always. The voice that says, "You can do anything. You are beautifully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Don't listen to the naysayers or the mean girls or the disillusioned. You are loved more than you could possibly imagine."

Weeks 23 and 24

Well hello there. Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Ours was very relaxing... I'm kind of sad it's over. Now that the holidays are officially behind us, we have pretty much entered "baby mode", which means that we are scrambling to get everything ready for Baby Girl's arrival. We have started work on the nursery. I found a maternity photographer. I have a list of classes I have to register for, starting next month. In all the craziness though, I am trying to take time to just enjoy my pregnancy. (Yes, it is possible to enjoy pregnancy, it turns out...) Meanwhile, I have more bump photos to share with you:

23 weeks... {This photo was taken on New Year's Eve. We were actually getting ready to go out to a friends's party. Obviously, my baby bump showed up for the party too.}

24 weeks... {After church on Sunday... Notice how hard my belt is working...}

Fortunately, I have still been able to wear my normal clothes. Mind you, it takes a bit more creativity, trying to put together outfits that work. But I'm fine with it. I am trying to hold off on the maternity clothes for as long as humanly possible!

Tomorrow, I will actually be 25 weeks. Baby Girl is currently the size of an eggplant, weighing about 1.7 pounds. She has a very strong ninja kick. Also, she is very opinionated about what she likes to eat. In my first trimester, I felt nauseous constantly, but I never actually got sick. In my second trimester, as my appetite has increased, I have gotten sick twice - once after eating Mexican (my favorite!) and once (last night actually) after eating a greasy cheese burger. My body completely rejects all greasy, delicious foods. I guess I'm supposed to be eating healthy anyway, right?
