Doctor Visit

Today Miss Lucy had her doctor visit. It is never fun to see her get shots, but we are so thankful to know that she is healthy. And growing!

Since her last doctor visit, she has gained 2 lbs. and has grown 4 inches! She is now 12.5 lbs. and 25 inches long. She is below the 50th percentile in every category except for height, where she is between the 50th - 75th percentile. Which explains why none of her onesies fit.

We are so excited to see our parents tomorrow, though I suspect they are more excited to see Lucy than us :) Not that we blame them!

4 Months

Our Lucy girl is four months old today!

At four months old, Lucy is growing more social and aware of her surroundings. She is starting to play independently, talking to her toys and grabbing everything in sight, including her toes. She has not quite learned how to roll over yet, but she is close. She also has two teeth coming in, which just seems crazy to me.

She is growing so fast that we can hardly keep up. I feel like every time I blink, we've passed another milestone. I have a feeling that once this little girl learns how to crawl, she will be keeping us very busy. I may cancel my gym membership :)

Under the Weather

Lately, Lucy and I have been feeling a little under the weather. Lucy is teething (already?!) and has developed a little cold as a result. Fortunately, it hasn't slowed her down too much...

The other night, I started to feel a little achy. I thought I was just sore from Cross-fit, but then I started getting cold chills. Apparently, I have mastitis, which is super lovely, let me tell you. The aches and cold chills have gone away, but I am feeling pretty exhausted. Thankfully, M hasn't started classes yet, so he has been around to help.

Tonight, one of the sweet ladies from church is coming over to watch Lucy, so that we can go out on a date. A date! I am looking forward to a night out with my man.

Happy Weekend :)

Kern Scholar Orientation

Hello, hello. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. To say we have been busy would be quite an understatement! We have been getting M ready to go back to school, which he will be starting NEXT WEEK!

Yesterday, we had M's orientation for the Kern Scholarship Program at Denver Seminary. For those of you who haven't heard of the Kern Scholarship (I hadn't until M applied for it), it is one of the most intensely rigorous scholarship programs for seminary students... And it will allow M to attend seminary tuition-free! This is obviously a HUGE deal for us, and we are still amazed at God's provision. Yesterday was the orientation for the Kern Scholarship program, so all three of us made the trip to Denver to meet the rest of the Kern scholars who will be graduating along with M.

For the orientation, we went on a lovely hike in Roxborough State Park...

 {Even Lucy joined us for the hike... that's her head peeking out of the Ergo.}

Afterwards, we went to a cook-out at the home of the program director. There are ten other scholars in M's graduating class. It was wonderful to get to know them and their spouses. So far, Lucy is the only kid, but one of the other wives is currently pregnant, which means that Lucy will soon have a little buddy to play with at Kern events.

As academically demanding as the Kern program will be, we feel so thankful that we will have such a great community to walk with us through the next four years. I think we are beginning to look forward to this next chapter of our lives.

Daddy

Lately, I have enjoyed watching M and Lucy interact with one another. It makes my heart melt to see the way she smiles up at him, waiting for him to do something that will make her laugh.

It was hard when Lucy was a teeny tiny newborn. I could tell that M wanted so badly to bond with her, and she was only interested in milk. Lucy has always loved her daddy, but now that she can actually interact with him, it has been so neat to watch that bond form. Her face lights up every time he comes into the room.

Yesterday, I was taking a video of Lucy, and M came home in the middle of it. I love the expression on Lucy's face when she knows her daddy is there to see her... It just brings tears to my eyes.

Us girls are certainly lucky to have a man like him around :)

At the Drive-In

Lately, we have been trying to soak up what's left of summertime before M has to start school in the fall. Last night, we went to the drive-in movie theater...

{Yes, we are wearing winter clothes... We live in the desert plains, which means that it gets cold at night - even in the summer!}

{Lucy got to stay up past her bedtime... She ended up sleeping through the entire movie, anyway!}

We saw Despicable Me 2, which was cute and funny. We went to the drugstore beforehand for Twizzlers and Vanilla Cokes - my favorites. We've been known to sneak in a bottle of wine too, but this time we didn't :)

Catching Up

I've been meaning to update the blog, but things have been a little crazy around here. We have been doing a few house projects (mainly the nursery, which I am changing up a bit... I'll explain later...) and soaking up what's left of summer. M will be going back to school in the fall, which means things will get a little messy and chaotic. But it will also mean the beginning of another fun chapter.

{our sweet Lucy Jane, playing with her dad}

I'm not entirely sure what it will look like for M to be in school full-time... and also have a full-time job. Even though I sometimes think he is Superman, I'm sure he will be so busy / exhausted for the next four years. Lucy and I have been so spoiled with the flexibility of his current job, and it will certainly be a change to have him away from us so much (commuting to Denver twice a week). It's definitely something we will have to figure out!

Hope you are all enjoying what's left of your summer!

Lucy in the Morning

This morning, we took a video of Lucy waking up. She is so out-of-it and happy in the morning. It's when we get the most smiles...

Lucy is still working on sleeping through the night. She makes it just about every other night. I can tell she is trying to hold on to her late-night feeding, even though she doesn't really need it. She wakes up to nurse, but she falls back to sleep almost immediately. Moms, if you have any tips, please share :)
