A Mini Update

What a crazy week / weekend it has been. Saturday morning, we woke up to discover that M's bike was stolen. Then, yesterday morning, Lucy woke up with a goopy, swollen eye. I ran her to the doctor, and sure enough - pink eye. On top of all that, we had family photos taken...

M had to have some head shots taken for his modeling career (his staff picture for the church website), so we decided to get some family photos taken while we were at it. Justin, our friend and one of M's coworkers, did a great job with the pictures, but I think you can tell we are all exhausted and feeling a little crazy. Also, our children absolutely would not look at the camera at the same time or remain still. Ah, memories.

This season of life has been so challenging for us. It is M's last semester of seminary, and we have a lot of big changes looming on the horizon. These changes are really exciting, but at the moment, I just feel drained and overwhelmed. M is working harder than I have ever seen him work, trying to balance school and work and still be a devoted, present husband and father. We go to bed at the end of each day feeling grateful but exhausted, and then we wake up the next morning and do it all over again. At the same time, I feel like God is teaching me so much about finding beauty in the mundane and the challenging aspects of life. Our children, even on the hardest days, bring so much joy and radiance to our world. I see the excitement with which they greet each new day, and it just reminds me to be thankful and to embrace the chaos. And, of course, I am thankful that this is just a season. M will not be in seminary forever; in fact, we are very, very close to the end.

I will devote another post to the big changes coming our way. There is a lot to say, and I have not had time or energy to process all of it, yet. Hopefully, I will be able to sit down and write about everything over the next several weeks. Stay tuned...

7 Months

Miss Alice is seven months old!

Some big milestones this month...

- Alice is sitting up!
- And sleeping through the night!
- And no more purees - she eats whatever we eat. She is insulted if we try to give her baby food.
- She has also started babbling, making repetitive sounds like, "Bababa."
- She is getting close to crawling. Thankfully, we're not there quite yet. And no teeth yet, either.

Alice's personality develops a little more every day. At first, we thought she was going to be our sweet, happy, compliant child. Alice is very sweet, happy, and content most of the time. I would definitely say she is an easy baby. But she also has a feisty side, much like her older sister. Poor M is stuck with a house full of strong, sassy women.

Weekend Day Hike

On Saturday, we went on a little day hike at Red Rocks. Lucy walked a good bit of the trail. She had so much fun exploring...

The weather was so perfect, warm and sunny, not a cloud in the sky. There are few landscapes more beautiful to me than red rocks against a clear, blue sky.

When Lucy was not running around, exploring, she got the best seat... on Daddy's back. Alice slept in the Ergo the entire time. She was evidently not impressed by the views.

This weekend was so glorious that I am a little sad it's Monday. Trying to pull myself together and gear up for another busy week!

Nature Walks

Now that most of the snow has melted, we have been trying to take daily nature walks. Yesterday, we discovered the most epic climbing tree in the park near our house...

This is the hardest time of year for me, waiting for spring and warm weather to arrive. Thankfully, the weather this week is supposed to be beautiful, with highs of 70. We plan to take advantage of this brief departure from winter.

Valentine's Day 2016

Happy Valentine's Day! This morning, we celebrated with pink milk and decadent chocolate chip pancakes...

Red roses from Daddy for his girls :)

Lucy received lots of valentines from family and loved ones. She was so excited to open them all this morning!

The pancakes were a big hit.

Alice was a particularly huge fan of them. Please note Georgia waiting patiently for some pancakes.

And now we are all in a sugar coma.

Happy Valentine's Day!

The Trip

Yesterday and today, we have been stuck inside due to a pretty epic blizzard, so we are all going a little stir crazy.

Lucy has been on a huge Ezra Jack Keats kick lately. She is obsessed with all of his books and asks me to read them multiple times a day. The Snowy Day, Whistle for Willie, Jenny's Hat... we've read them all. This week, we checked a new one out from the library. It's called The Trip, and it's about a little boy who moves to a new city. He starts to feel homesick, so he makes a diorama of his old city from an old shoebox and imagines that he's traveling back there.

So this morning, after reading The Trip for the nineteenth time, Lucy asked me if we could make a shoebox like the one from her book. And that's exactly what we did.

Our airplane is flying dangerously low.

Definitely not as cool as the one from the book, but Lucy has been playing with it all day. Hopefully, all this snow will melt soon, so we can get out of the house and stretch our legs.
