Root Beer Milk

This morning, we took John to the farmer's market. It was pretty hot out, so we went in search of something refreshing to drink. The Daily Fresh folks were there, selling their delicious local milk. They sell plain milk, chocolate milk, and all flavors of yogurt. But by far the most interesting thing that they sell is something called "root beer milk". We were intrigued, so Morgan bought a bottle. Root beer and milk sound like such a strange combination, but I promise, it's one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted. It reminded me of a root beer float. And it was pretty refreshing!

If you're curious, you can order some here.

The Month of Visitors

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. It has been a Month of Visitors. This week, my brother John is in town. Here is what we looked like in our youth, back in the days of the California gold rush. He was an outlaw, and I was a saloon girl. We were dangerous.

It is so much fun having my brother here in Fort Collins. He got in yesterday afternoon. Today, he and Morgan went to New Belgium to tour the brewery. I have a feeling they will be gone awhile.

My brother also happens to be a ridiculous musician. Listen to his stuff here. My favorite tracks are "Infant Love" and "Birds of Prey".

A Tour of Fort Collins

My best friend Leanna is in town this week! We ate brunch at Snooze this morning. It was glorious, but afterwards, we were so full we couldn't move.

Pancake Flight: 1 sweet potato pancake + 1 "cinnafull" pancake + 1 pineapple upside down pancakes. Divine.

Tonight, we are headed to the drive-in movie theater. We are taking a picnic dinner. And depending on how tired we are after the first movie, we may stay for a double feature. I love having visitors in town. I feel like I get to be a tourist in my own city, do all my favorite things. It's pretty terrific.

Have a great night. xo

Coffee Table: A Love Story

Well hello. I have been enjoying having my husband back. Yesterday we went to the pool and watched "The Fighter" on instant Netflix while eating a pile of cookie mess from the failed batch I tried to make. Nobody told me how hard baking would be in the West. Note: It's hard.

Ever since we moved into our new place, I have been looking for the perfect coffee table. You would not believe how hard it is to find a good coffee table on a budget. But we found The One. It was sitting in a junk room in a consignment shop, and it was beautiful. It was calling my name. It was only $40.

Leanna is here! We are going to dinner at The Rio tonight. I am so excited to have her here with me.

Yay!

My husband comes home today! I am so excited to see him. It has been a long, hard week, made longer and harder by the fact that I don't have Morgan around to talk to. I think husbands are great like that. They are always around to listen. Even if what you are saying is silly and ridiculous.

I got to talk to him last night, briefly. I went over to my friend Heather's house. Her husband, Jon, is leading the backpacking trip, and he communicates with her every night via satellite phone. Last night, he passed the phone off to Morgan, and I was able to ask how he was doing, how the trip was going, etc. We had a bad signal, but I got the feeling it's been a hard week for him, too. I am excited to hear about it in more detail. He will get home today around two o'clock. I don't think the time could pass quickly enough!

This backpacking trip was our last trip of the summer. I have to say I am glad for that. I am looking forward to things settling back into their usual rhythm. And, we have some exciting guests coming into town, first my best friend and then my brother! I seriously can't wait.

All By My Lonesome

This week, I am all by my lonesome. Morgan is backpacking in the wilderness with our high schoolers. He can't even talk to me on the phone. I am not cool with that. It's funny - we've been married over a year and a half, and I still don't like it when he's not around. We are just silly in love like that.

Today after seeing Morgan and the kiddos off, I went to the farmers market. I got some fresh lavender (thinking I'm going to make some lavender vanilla bean ice cream tonight!) and some local honey. I can't leave the farmers market empty handed. I mean, come on.

Blessings

I came home from a really long day to find that my husband left me this sweet message:

Today was pretty crazy. There is no easing back into reality. We are sort of crashing into it. But I find that's when I am most aware of how blessed we are. Because in the midst of everything, there are moments like coming home and finding this on my chalk board.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow...
