Lucy's Nursery Update

When I posted about Lucy's nursery a few months ago, I couldn't help feeling that it just wasn't finished. But, since I was busy adjusting to life with a newborn, I didn't care / have time to do anything about it.

Now that Lucy is older, I have a little more free time (but not really), and I have learned so much more about Lucy's little personality. I've tried to take her personality into account while putting some finishing touches on her room. I want this room to be a place where she loves to hang out. I want it to feel whimsical and fun, but also soothing...

We decided to paint the bed white. The original color was not my style, and it just looked way too formal for a little girl's room. Maybe I'll regret it one day, but so far, I do not. The side-table dresser needed a new coat of paint anyway, so we went with a soft gray.

This is the little corner where I rock Lucy to sleep every night. I found a little wire storage bin at Home Goods to hold some of Lucy's books.

The photo hanging over Lucy's crib was taken by our friend Libby. She took the most beautiful photos of Lucy's baptism. You should hire her for your next wedding / engagement / Christmas card / birth / any occasion :)

The wood stain on the crib does not go with anything else in the room, but we found out that it's not safe to paint the crib because babies like to chew on things. Just let the record show that I had big, exciting plans for this crib once :)

This shelf hangs over Lucy's dresser / changing table. The baby deer photograph is by Sharon Montrose.

I'm still working on a couple projects that I can't wait to share when I'm finished. I am very excited about them, even though I suspect I have bitten off more than I can chew at the moment... :)

A Day at the Park

Lucy and I convinced M to take a break from studying and come to the park with us. We packed a picnic lunch and walked to our little neighborhood park, which happens to have a great playground.

Lucy liked the swings best, but she also went down the slide...

I'm not sure how she felt about it.

Happy weekend to all :)

Lucy Laughs

This morning, we were all very excited to see the sun. For awhile, I was afraid we would have to build an arc.

Lately, Lucy has been practicing her laugh. She thinks our dogs are especially hilarious.

Right now, her laugh sort of sounds just like her cry. As you can imagine, this is extremely confusing for our dogs. But amusing for us.

Have a great weekend!

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

As I write this, I can hear Lucy talking to herself in her crib, where she is supposed to be taking a nap. What a funny little girl.

I'm sure you have heard about all the flooding here in Colorado. It has been raining nonstop all week long. At first, the rain was really nice. But after several days of this, I am ready for some sunshine. I think everyone in Colorado is.

{My deck is just about as far as I will venture in this weather.}

Lucy and I are staying warm and dry indoors. It's the perfect weather for hot tea and old movies. So if you're wondering why I haven't been blogging, it's because we have been boring homebodies this week :)

Labor Day

We had a lovely Labor Day with mine and M's parents...

After breakfast, we drove to Estes Park. We explored the old Stanley Hotel (where M and I went for our "babymoon") and had lunch there in the restaurant.

The Stanley Hotel is supposedly what inspired Stephen King to write The Shining, which inspired the film by Stanley Kubrick. While we were there, we happened to run into Jack Nicholson, who apparently stops in from time to time to mess with people... We saw him getting on the elevator, and then we saw him walking around with a cigar. Turns out, it wasn't really Jack Nicholson at all, just a really amazing look-alike who happens to live in Estes Park. So even though we didn't meet the famous actor, we did possibly meet his twin brother.

After lunch, we drove up into Rocky Mountain National Park, all the way up Trail Ridge Road. The views from the top were breathtaking... We were literally in the clouds.

We had such an amazing time with our parents that we were sad to see them go home on Tuesday. Fortunately, my mom has been staying with us, cooking delicious meals and logging some babysitting time :)

Lucy's Baptism, Part 2

Our talented friend, Libby, was kind enough to take some pictures of us after Lucy's baptism...

Thank you, Libby!!!

Lucy's Baptism, Part 1

On Sunday, we had Lucy baptized. It was a beautiful day to celebrate God's love for his people and the covenant promises that were fulfilled in Christ. Both sets of parents / grandparents were in town for the occasion, and I was so overwhelmed by the blessing of family.

Here are some pictures from the service...

Lucy wore the same gown that I wore for my baptism when I was about her age. The gown is over a hundred years old, so I was very nervous that Lucy would spit up or poop all over it. She didn't, thankfully. And she reacted pretty well when our pastor sprinkled water on her head. She just looked around at everyone, like she thought we were all crazy :)

More pictures tomorrow!
